有人用“漂亮的转身”来形容蓝理捷 James J. Lally，蓝理捷大学主修生物学，后又转向英国文学以及商业与国际关系，因为对艺术的热爱，经人介绍进入了英国苏富比工作，第一个职位也是在会计部。蓝理捷回忆到说，这个职位可以让他与公司各个业务部门有交往，对任何他觉得有兴趣的艺术品都可以坐下来仔细研究。
70年代初，蓝理捷成为纽约苏富比中国艺术部门总裁。80年代初，苏富比公司面临了一次重大的重组，当时已经是纽约苏富比总裁的蓝理捷出让了手上的股份，有了资金后，1986年成立了以自己名字命名的艺术品画廊。
蓝理捷的画廊在Central Park附近的57th街，专营瓷器，同期，玉器，佛像等高古藏品。每年的J.J Lally都会呈现专题的展览，2015年的白瓷展，2016年的高古玉展，都给大家留下了深刻的印象。同时，J.J Lally的藏品也被全球顶尖博物馆争相收藏，其中包括纽约大都会博物馆，大英博物馆，东京国立博物馆，芝加哥博物馆，耶鲁博物馆，华盛顿费里尔博物馆等，也奠定了J.J Lally在中国艺术品市场的稳固地位。
